Frequently Asked Questions

At this time, Spelling to Communicate (S2C) services are not covered by insurance. The International Association for Spelling as Communication (I-ASC) is actively working to support research and broader recognition of spelling-based communication methods. As awareness and research grow, we hope to see greater accessibility in the future.

Do you accept insurance?

How old do you need to be to spell?

2

We generally recommend students to be age 5 or older to begin. For ages 3 and below, we recommend traditional Occupational Therapy for body apraxia, practicing hand-eye coordination and reading age appropriate books in the meantime.

Will my loved one need our spelling services forever?

3

No. The goal of this framework is for families to learn independence and autonomy. Sessions are designed not only to support the speller, but also to teach parents and caregivers how to become a Communication Regulation Partner (CRP). Over time, families learn the strategies needed to support spelling communication themselves.

How is this different than AAC?
